Larry E. Woods, 76, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at the Kobacker House with his wife by his side after a brave battle with cancer. Larry was born October 6, 1945 in Lancaster, OH to Andrew and Vivian Woods. He graduated from the Lancaster Ohio High School in 1963, attended Ohio University and volunteered for the United States Air Force, serving from 1965-1969. Larry was a fabric manufacturer’s representative for 38 years. He was an active member of the Fashion Group of Columbus and had a keen sense of fashion. For the past 24 years, Larry has been an auctioneer and appraiser. He was owner of Larry Woods Auctions and was known for his skills at charity auctions. He is a life-time member of the Ohio Auctioneer Association and served as a district director. He was appointed to serve on the Ohio Auctioneer Commission by the state governor. He also enjoyed his Ohio State University Schottenstein Center work where he continued until he became ill earlier this year. For many years, Larry was involved with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters, serving on the Board. Larry loved music and was a percussionist with the Grove City Community Winds and various other community bands. He especially enjoyed jazz and has been an enthusiastic supporter of the Columbus Jazz Orchestra and its musical education programs. He is a long-time member of First Community Church. The Wednesday morning breakfast fellowship and men’s retreats were very important to him and where he made lasting friendships. He served on the finance council and First Community Foundation Board. He was a deacon and over the years he participated in many adult learning programs, mission projects and most recently Heart to Heart Food Pantry.
Larry was active in Cum Christo (M57) for many years and his reunion group continued until his death. In the past few years he has been an avid card player at the Upper Arlington Senior Center making many new friends. Larry enjoy traveling and was always ready for a new adventure. He was preceded in death by his parents Andrew and Vivian Woods and brother-in-law Dr. Raymond Meyer. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Annita M. Meyer; sister, LuAnn Darfus; sister-in-law, Dr. Diane Conrad; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dr. DeVon and Ellen Meyer and many nephews, nieces and cousins. He had loving relationships with his extended family and friends. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at 1:00 pm at First Community Church, 1320 Cambridge Blvd, Columbus, OH 43212. After the service there will be a reception to continue the celebration of Larry’s life.
