Lamont "Skip" Blalock, 81, died on November 18, 2023 in Columbus, Ohio. He was born on June 17,1942 in Orwell, Ohio. He was always a hard worker, starting at a young age starting on the docks in Cleveland, Ohio and most times worked two or three jobs. He worked at Ohio State University, LensCrafters and America's Best. He retired from Columbus City Schools where he taught Optics and Dispensing. He started two clinics with seed money from the Columbus Foundation to get eye exams and glasses for any student needing them at no cost to them and a clinic for homeless individuals who needed glasses. He partnered with Ohio State University and several doctors in the community to provide the eye exams and glasses. Skip enjoyed playing golf and would try to play as often as he could. He especially enjoyed going to Myrtle Beach to play with some golfing buddies in the spring. Yearly vacations with his extended family to Myrtle Beach was always important to him. He enjoyed cooking for everyone and would take his crockpots and needed supplies to make it just
right. However, his favorite place to be was in Nantucket, Massachusetts. He would plan which house to buy with his lottery winnings, should he win, and was pleased to introduce Nantucket to his daughter, Lauren. He even spoke of going to Nantucket several days before his death. He was an Army Veteran and a member of Opticians Association, and Ohio State University President Club. He is survived by his wife, Susan (Tuttle) Blalock of over 40 years, daughter Lauren (Brad) Suttorp and granddaughter, Harbor. He was able to see his first grandchild a week after her birth and several days before his passing. Also brothers-in-law Mark ( Celia) Tuttle of Tucson, Arizona, Steven Tuttle of Columbus and David ( Gina) Tuttle of Columbus along with sister-in-law Nancy Hale of North Ogden, Utah and many nieces, nephews and friends.
A special thanks to Bella Care Hospice for their care the last few months. A service will be held on Friday, November 24, 2023, at 10:00am at Resurrection Cemetery Chapel (9571 N. High Street, Columbus, OH) A
military burial will follow.
