Kenneth Underwood passed away peacefully on November 6, 2022. He was born on March 20, 1940 in Cleveland, Ohio to Ronald and Edith Underwood. Survived by his wife, Jan, of 58 years. His life was dedicated to his loving wife and family members where Ken and Jan raised two daughters Jill (Bob), Kate (Jon) and a son Brad (Johnna); he thanks his 9 grandchildren, Bobby, Charlie, Henry, Hallie, Mills, Eva, Addison, Jack and Max for making him a good grandfather. He looked forward to spending time with each of them and attending as many of their events as possible. Ken is also survived by his two brothers Dave and Rick (Kathy) and many nieces and nephews. Ken graduated from Rocky River High School and then received his Bachelor of Industrial Engineering and Masters of Business degrees from Ohio State University while serving as a member of Ohio Staters and Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. While working full-time, he earned his Law Degree in Capital University’s Evening Program. A die-hard Buckeye fan and a hater of the “School Up North”. Always one to work hard and play hard, Ken began his 50-year career as a Human Resources consultant before joining the Horton Company, a prestigious ambulance builder where he oversaw operations. He retired from Jefferson Industries Corporation, a Japanese Honda parts supplier, as Sr. Manager of Administration at the age of 75. Ken cared deeply for Upper Arlington, which he considered his home community, where he served as Chairman of Upper Arlington Board of Zoning Adjustment, followed by 10 years as a member of Upper Arlington City Council. He further served as Trustee of First Community Village and Director of UACA with successive roles as Parade Chairman and General Chairman of Fourth Of July celebration. He loved the business world, whether his rental properties or assisting his son with his business. Ken’s hobbies included extensive travel, hosting bi-annual family vacations, photography, tennis, UA Senior Golf and riding his red scooter visiting friends around the city. Many will recall a loyal father, valued friend and trusted advisor. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your favorite charity or to Hospice of Central Ohio. For calling hours, please dress casually because that is what Ken asked for and he will be mad at anyone showing up in a suit.
