

Joseph Salvatore Zappia died peacefully at Mount Carmel St. Ann’s hospital on November 21, 2011 at the age of 86 from a long battle with cancer. He is survived by his brother, Angelo (Joyce) Zappia and sister-in-law, Donna Quitar; his sons, Carmen (Maribeth), Joseph (Catherine), Daniel (Genna) Zappia; and daughter Sandra (Michael) Duffy; his grandchildren, Michael (Katy), Christopher, Andrea, and Lauren Zappia; Michael (Jennifer) and Ashley Duffy; his great-grandchildren, Gina Zappia, Baylee Merrimann, Garrett and Benjamin Duffy; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Idea; his parents, Josephine and Carmelo; his brother, Rocco; and his sister, Rose Marie. He was a loving and caring father who enjoyed working in his vegetable garden and going fishing. He was an employee for many years at White Westinghouse and retired from Gioffre Companies after 20+ years of service where he was fondly known as “UJ”. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in WWII for three years as Private First Class. Visitation will be held at Schoedinger North Chapel, 5554 Karl Road, Columbus, OH 43229 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:45pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. James the Less Church, 1652 Oakland Park Avenue, Columbus at 10:00 a.m., Father Scott Kramer, celebrant. Internment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
