John E. Sadler, age 81, passed away at home on Saturday, June 3, 2017. He was born on August 23, 1935 in Pennsboro, WV to the late Delmur and Vivian (Calhoun) Sadler. Founder and spiritual leader of the volunteer SMART wheelchair ramp ministry at Redeemer UMC for more than 25 years, John was also active in the church's Hispanic ministry. A widely recognized expert in reinforced concrete silo design, John was by profession a structural engineer and a core partner of Fling and Partners Consulting Engineers for about 30 years. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his son, Mark Allen Sadler and infant brother, Daniel Sadler. He is survived by his wife, Joann (Eichmiller) Sadler; son, Jay Sadler; daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Kent Green; grandchildren, Miriam (Adam Parsons) Green, Daniel (Julia) Green, Susanna (Charles) Hall, Abigail Green, Betsy Green, Lois Green, and Ethan Green; great-grandson, Lawson Hall; siblings William "Sam" (Virginia) Sadler, Tom (Betty Jo) Sadler, and Jane Berkemer; nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 pm Wednesday at Schoedinger East Chapel, 5360 E. Livingston Ave. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 am Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Church of the Redeemer United Methodist, 235 McNaughten Rd., Columbus, OH 43213. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Church of the Redeemer United Methodist SMART Team or Hispanic Ministries.
