John Gilbert Nease passed away unexpectedly on November 23, 2022 at his home. He was 60 years old. John was born in Columbus on August 20, 1962 to the late Carl and Helen (Click) Nease. He is survived by his brother Phillip (Nancy) of Fort Collins, CO, his nieces and nephew, Rachel, Chloe, and Joseph, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins that all loved him very much.
John attended grade school and Jr High in Columbus. The family moved to Westerville and John graduated from Westerville North High School in 1981. During this time John achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He attended The Ohio State University from 1981 to 1983.
John worked at George J Igel Company from 1978 until 2008. He began in high school and worked as a yardman and laborer, then moved to the parts department. During this period, he was named Employee of the Year. He was very proud of this accomplishment and enjoyed his work at Igel Company. John began work at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Environmental Services department in 2009 and remained until his passing. While at Children’s he achieved Employee of the Month and was nominated for Employee of the Year. Regardless of the job, John was a hard worker, and his family was pleased he was recognized by those around him.
John loved life, sports and his relationship with family and friends. He attended any OSU sporting event where he could get a ticket! He enjoyed all sports and could be seen at many Columbus Clippers and Westerville football games. John had a mind for numbers and statistics and was quick to have the answer for about any sport trivia question. He always had a smile and was eager to talk to everyone he met. He was especially blessed to be surrounded by friends.
John was very close to both his parents and missed them greatly. They are all now reunited in the arms of Jesus.
Services will be held at Schoedinger North Funeral Home, 5554 Karl Road in Columbus on December 17, 2022 at 11am. A reception will immediately follow from noon to 2pm at Schoedinger. John’s urn will be interred next to his parents at Ravenswood Cemetery in Ravenswood, West Virginia.
