He graduated from Springfield High School and Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, class of 1956. Later, he did graduate work in medicine and economics at Ohio State University.
While attending Miami University he met Joyce Elaine Brust of Kettering, Ohio, and the two married on August 24, 1957.
John started his professional career working for the State of Ohio in the Finance Department. He then started his marketing and management career in the telecommunications industry when he joined Ohio Bell and later ATandT. He retired from ATandT in July 1989, and went to work for Huntington National Bank, Telecommunications Department and then retired again in August, 2000.
John had 3 children, Jean (Larry) Binkovitz of Rochester, Minnesota; Jan (Jim) Eisner (deceased) of Bethesda, Maryland and Jeffrey (Stephen George) of Columbus. He is survived by his wife, Joyce, and 6 grandchildren: Beth Binkovitz, Isaac (Sigalit) Binkovitz, Leah (Phillip) Pyle, Anna Binkovitz, Nathan Eisner, and Eric Eisner, plus 2 great grandchildren, Sadie Pyle and Elinoa Binkovitz. He is also survived by his sister, Roberta Gatwood Dotin and several nieces and nephews.
John had been active in Columbus Downtown Civitan Club and Administrative Management Society.
He was member of Grove City United Methodist Church for over 50 years. He also attended Scioto Ridge Methodist Church and the Dublin Community Church.
He enjoyed riding his tractor on his small farm in Pleasant Township and sharing his enthusiasm for boating and waterskiing on Burt Lake, Michigan with his children and grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2pm on Friday, May 11, 2018 at Dublin Community Church, 81 West Bridge Street, Dublin, Ohio.
