John Patrick Berger was 51 years old when he passed quietly, after a five-year fight with cancer. JP, as he was affectionately known, is survived by his father, John D. Berger, his sister Jan M. Berger, his nephew, Christopher D. Berger, many aunts and uncles, and numerous cousins.
JP was born in San Antonio, Texas but lived most of his early life in Kettering, Ohio. He graduated from Fairmont High School in 1988. During his senior year, he was co-captain of the Firebird wrestling team. He attended The Ohio State University where he developed his life-long love for the Buckeyes. He transferred to DeVry Institute of Technology where he earned his B.S. in Computer Programming and IT. He went on to a successful career as a programmer for UMB.
John was an avid sports fan, especially for his beloved Buckeyes. John's hobby was nature photography Over the years he shared his professional-level photography with his family and friends. He loved the outdoors and nature: exploring, hiking, boating and cooking. If he was in his boat on the lake, he was in seventh-heaven. But by far, he loved to be with his family and friends. At the lake, he was always cooking and barbequing with and for his friends and family. Always outgoing, 'he never knew a stranger'.
His warm, generous, and personable manner will long be remembered by his family, friends, and co-workers. We will miss him greatly and carry his love of life, friends and family with us.
There will be no formal service at the funeral home but we would love it if you would share a story about JP that you would be willing to share. These stories can be posted on the funeral home website. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his memory at PanCan.org.
