John H. Allen

John H. Allen Jr., age 91, passed away at his residence on Thursday, February 3, 2022. He is preceded in death by his parents, John Allen Sr (Virginia Smiley) and Cora Sayre (CK Sayre), brother Tom and step siblings Bob Evans and Janice Blatz. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Alma (Sis) his children, John (Sherry) Allen III of Punta Gorda FL, Staci (Robert) Owen of Alpharetta GA, Michael (Vicki) Allen of Lithopolis OH, Craig (Beth) Allen, 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was a 1948 graduate of Columbus Central HS and active in the alumni association. John then served his country in the US Army from 1953-55. He received his bachelor's degree in physical education from Ohio University and his master's degree in education from The Ohio State University. He had many roles at Southwestern City Schools, as coach, teacher and Guidance Counselor. He first retired after 24 years of service to the school district followed later by many additional years working at the Grove City recreation center retiring again in 2019. He also owned and operated John Allen Appraisals for many years. Additionally he spent time coaching basketball at Ohio Dominican and Bishop Ready among many other life long jobs. John also was a lifetime member of St Matthews church. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at SCHOEDINGER GROVE CITY 3920 Broadway from 4-7 pm with funeral service being held on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at 1 pm with Father Joe Yokum officiating. Entombment will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery.
