Joan B.(Graves) Jackson, was born September 23. 1938 in Philadelphia, PA, departed this life peacefully on January 29, 2023, at the age of 84. Her loving son, Rome and devoted daughter-in-law Kris were at her side. Joan was raised in Columbus, Ohio and graduated from East High School. Joan is preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and Paul Starks. Joan graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics. She loved working with youth and incorporated it in her vocation as a substitute teacher for in Columbus City Schools. She also had her cosmetology license and was into real estate. Through the years, she acquired a wealth of knowledge and love for the world of fashion design, including haute decor. She treasured her travels in search of rare and beautiful items. She loved shopping trips to high-fashioned, designers stores which included, Saks Fifth Avenue, Lord & Taylor, Henri Bendel, Garfinckels and Neiman Marcus. Joan loved and lived her life to the fullest. She enjoyed a good laugh and later in life, especially loved turning on Madea movies, generating hours of laughter. She leaves behind a loving son and daughter-in-law, Jerome and Kris, who cared for her until the very end as she transitioned into eternity, her three grandsons, Daivon, Josiah and Marcus, and a host of family and friends who will miss her greatly. A colorful celebration of her life will be held Friday, February 3, 2023 at Schoedinger East Funeral Home, located at 5360 E. Livingston Avenue, Columbus Ohio. Family will receive guests at 3:00 p.m., followed promptly by a 4:00 p.m. service. The family is requesting that no one wear all black. Rather, in concert with Joan's life and love of fashion and color, the family wants to celebrate her life and legacy in a colorful, upbeat manner. Flowers can be sent to the funeral home or, in lieu of flowers honoring her love of youth, tax deductible contributions may be made to D.I.V.E.
