James K. Sherer, age 91, of Upper Arlington, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2024. He was born in Fremont, Ohio to Dr. Kenneth and Ruth (Rafferty) Sherer on August 7, 1932. He was a 1950 graduate of Fremont Ross High School and graduated from The Ohio State University, College of Engineering, School of Architecture in 1955. Married high school sweetheart Gloria Geyman on June 19, 1954. After his graduation, he fulfilled a ROTC commitment with the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Cheyenne, Wyoming, Bordeaux and Chateauroux, France. Upon returning, he worked for the architectural firm of Dan A. Carmichael, AIA from 1957 to 1997. During this time, Jim was on the faculty at The Ohio State University, School of Architecture from 1961 to 1971. He was an associate in the architectural firm of Moody Nolan, Inc. from 1997 to 2014.
A member of American Institute of Architects, Architects Society of Ohio, The OSU President’s Club, OSU Alumni Club, St. Agatha Church, active in LaRochelle Association, Trouville. Enjoyed woodworking, making many beautiful pieces of furniture.
Survived by wife, Gloria; sister, Sally Barber; brother, Bruce (Vicki) Sherer; brother-in-law, Roger Geyman; nephews, Greg Barber, Brian (Jeanne) Barber and Tom Sherer; niece, Suzanne (Patrick) Stone; and many great nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 PM on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST, 1740 Zollinger Road, Upper Arlington, Ohio 43221. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at St. Agatha Church, 1860 Northam Road, Upper Arlington, Ohio 43221. Burial at St. Joseph Cemetery in Fremont, Ohio.
