James “Jim” Edgar

James Lee Edgar, age 88, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2023, at the Hilliard Assisted Living facility. Jim grew up in Columbus, graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School and The Ohio State University. He was a buyer for the Lazarus Company and later had a long career with the State Farm Insurance Company as an independent agent.

Jim was preceded in death recently by his beloved wife, Donna. They would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in March of this year.

Jim will be remembered for his love of life. He dedicated his life early on to his wife and family; he was adored by all members, and had a special relationship with each. As a father of five daughters, he was a constant support, the best cheerleader, and an unwavering encourager that we could do or be anything. Often he was asked how he survived so much “female energy,” and he would reply with a smile “I never felt emasculated. I felt emancipated.”

Jim had two other great passions, The Ohio State University Buckeyes and golf. He was never happier than on a fall football Saturday in Columbus or on a sunny summer day on the golf course.

Jim never took life for granted. He appreciated all the little things, from sunsets and cocktails on the patio to the beauty of a lit Christmas tree or freshly fallen snow. He constantly expressed gratitude daily for all the gifts that life brings, and in remembering him with love, we are inspired to do the same.
