Born in Bremen, Ohio on September 6, 1945, Greg was the youngest son of the late Helen Irene (Robinson) and Lewis Dalton Freisner. He graduated from Fairfield Union High School in 1963 which is where he developed his love for football. Greg earned the role of Co-Captain of the football team and was named All Mid-State Center. While at Fairfield Union, he was active in basketball, baseball, yearbook staff, and the debate team while becoming a member of the National Honor Society and being awarded the superlative of Best All-Around Senior.
Greg graduated from The Ohio State University in 1967, was an active member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, and upon graduation became a lifetime member of The Ohio State University Alumni Association. Greg found a true home in Columbus and put down his roots and became a Buckeye for life. He was a decades-long OSU football season ticket holder and avid fan of the Buckeyes.
He took an active role in the lives of his grandchildren by attending every dance recital, lacrosse game, choir concert, orchestra concert, gymnastics event, graduation, award ceremony. You name it, if he was able, he and Iris (a.k.a Papaw and Nana) were there showing support and cheering on their grandkids. Greg will be remembered by his silly dad jokes, math anecdotes, and his collection of clever t-shirts that celebrate what was good and blessed in his life.
Greg is survived by his loving wife, Iris Gerken Freisner; brother, Lynn (Lynda) Freisner of Punta Gorda, Florida; children, Kerrie (Ian) Donahue of Barrington, Rhode Island and Tricia (Dave) Kershner of Upper Arlington, Ohio, Jessica (Jimmy) Dykes of Atlanta, Georgia and Sarah Gerken of Columbus, Ohio, and grandchildren; Megan and Brian Donahue; Molly and Kate Kershner; Gunnar, Parker and Miller Dykes. Born on the same day in the small town of Bremen, OH, Greg and Iris found each other later in life and blended their families as one. Greg will be forever remembered by his children and grandchildren, as well as beloved family members, and dear friends. His memory will be cherished by all that knew him.
