Grace May Watkins was born on September 14, 1935 in Columbus, Ohio to the proud parents Kenneth L. Watkins and Frances Hazel Watkins, and big brother, Bobby. The family lovingly called her "SUG", no doubt because of her sweet disposition, and to close friends, she was "Gracie".
Gracie attended North High School and was part of the Honor Study program, Style Show, and a member of the National Honor Society. She graduated in 1953 and started her career at Wonder Bread as an Account Clerk in the office. She had fond memories of watching her Dad while he worked down below in the warehouse shipping area. Because of her excellent performance and quality of work, she became part of the #1 Club at the ITT Baking Company, which allowed her to travel all over the U.S. and Caribbean. She was able to retire in 2000.
Gracie's spiritual life began when she dedicated her life to Jehovah God and was baptized on December 21, 1957. She was a member of the Central Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. When she was able, she attended all the meetings with her mini-Bible and big smile. Gracie loved going out in the ministry with her friends to teach others about her heavenly Father, Jehovah God, and his promise to free this world from all suffering and death.
Gracie passionately loved God's creations. She loved all animals, especially her family dog, Rover. She enjoyed beautiful sunsets and identifying the shapes seen in the big white puffy clouds. She loved her flowers, which could be seen in her colorful, well-maintained yard. Gracie enjoyed taking drives to see the leaves changing colors in the Fall. Gracie also enjoyed food. She would never turn down a Wendy's Single with cheese, Pepsi, chips, or chocolate.
Gracie was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Robert (Bobby) Watkins, who was her best friend that she lovingly cared for through his battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Many of Gracie's dear friends helped her throughout the years and during the final days of her life. This allowed her to remain in her home with calm comfortable surroundings, where she was able to fall asleep peacefully and is now in God's memory. We are so thankful to the many loving hands that made this possible. Gracie's smile, kindness, and sweetness will be dearly missed. We all look forward to seeing her again in the New World... Just Around the Corner!
Please consider, in lieu of flowers, going to JW.org and making a memorial contribution in Grace's name.
