The family of Geraldine Cunningham (née Shoemaker) regrets to report her passing in the early hours of June 21, 2021, one day shy of her 78th birthday. Known as Gerry by her friends and family, she brought an incredible light and warmth to every room. She had an innate ability to make friends anywhere, and you'd swear after five minutes that you had been lifelong friends. Those fortunate enough to know her for years got to understand the true depth of her love and compassion.
But her greatest love was reserved for her close family and her adoring husband of 43 years, Steve, who preceded her in death on March 26, 2007. Together, they had two beautiful children, Kristy and Tim, their six grandchildren; Michael, Kaitlin, Ryan, Erin, Stefanie and Evan. Gerry was also blessed with three great-grandchildren; Damian, Cole and Wyatt.
Gerry and Steve had an incredible life together, filled with adventure, love, and kindness. They loved to travel, but above all, they loved to bring joy to others in any way possible. Surprise visits, road trips, parties and vacations were something they loved to bestow on their friends and family. But the greatest gift that they gave was of themselves; their time, patience, and understanding.
After Steve's passing, Gerry continued to offer love and support to all who knew her, be they friend, family or stranger. Her smile and laughter were infectious, reflective of her remarkable spirit.
In 2014, Gerry was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease and made the difficult decision to leave her home in Connecticut to return to Ohio, where she had been raised and still had family support. She lived in Columbus, close to her sister and brother-in-law, until her death.
Private service will be held for the family and friends on Friday, June 25 at 11 am at Schoedinger Northwest on Zollinger Rd.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1379 Dublin Road, Columbus, Ohio 43215 or to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73123.
Arrangements entrusted to SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST.
