George R. Eckert, age 77, of Reynoldsburg, passed away unexpectedly Monday, February 26, 2024 at his home. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA on August 7, 1946, son of the late George R. and Betty (Hreha) Eckert. George was the ultimate automotive mechanic as there wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix or re-design a part. He will be sorely missed by and is survived by his children, Chris Eckert, Sean (Desireé) McGibbon and Julie Schultz; sister, Gayle Eckert Benack; niece and nephew, Lecia and Justin. Also survived by beloved friend, Dotty Ewing; his faithful companion, Mr. Moose and many lifelong classmates and friends. He attended St. Pius Catholic Church. George was a huge NASCAR fan and loved everything GM/Chevy. A Veteran U.S. Air Force, he took great pride having served including during the Vietnam Conflict. George also loved racing slot cars and rooting for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He collected and fixed all sorts of lawnmowers and tv’s never knowing he might need a part to get it back in working order. Friends may call 1-3:00 pm Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at SCHOEDINGER EAST, 5360 E. Livingston Avenue, Columbus, OH 43232, where funeral service will be held immediately following at 3:00 pm at Schoedinger. Interment, Dayton National Cemetery with U.S. Air Force Honors Wednesday March 6th at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Volunteer Services Department of Chalmers Wylie Veteran’s Clinic, 420 N. James Road, Columbus, OH 43219, in George’s name.
