Frederick Earl “Freddie” Welch, age 85 of Columbus, passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2023. Freddie was born and raised in Columbus, son of the late Frederick R. and Murial Welch. Also preceded in death by his sister, Mary Louise Walters, great grandson, nieces, Irene Wogan and Silvia Thompson, nephew, Steve Walters, and daughter-in-law, Jean Welch. Freddie graduated from North High School, Class of 1956. He went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Army. Freddie began a career in accounting with Bank Ohio and later transitioned to OPERS where he retired as a Counselor / Field Representative for 30 years. Freddie was a collector of antique radios and enjoyed events with other collectors. He was passionate about his Italian Village home and loved customizing and caring for it. No one can forget Freddie’s love of cars, especially his Camaro’s. He also enjoyed gardening, walks with his dog Seba through Italian Village, and being the “roadie” for his wife’s band, Longtooth. He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of 39 years, Vanessa Schumm Welch; children, James Welch, Dee Cox, Kim (Tom) Korrie, Lori (Patrick) Dunnick, and Tina Cline; 18 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and other extended family members and dear friends. A reception celebrating Freddie will be held from 1:30 – 3:30 Saturday, June 10, 2023 at Schoedinger Northwest, 1740 Zollinger Rd. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Capital Area Humane Society, 3015 Scioto Darby Executive Ct., Hilliard, Ohio 43026.
