Colonel Hamilton enlisted in the Army Reserves in his senior year of high school. After graduation he was called to active duty and received his training at Jefferson Barracks Military Post in Missouri. Colonel Hamilton was accepted into the aviation cadet Program in San Antonio, Texas and was sent to Amid Oklahoma (Vence AFB) to complete primary and advanced flying schools. He graduated on April 15, 1945 as a B25 pilot and was commissioned as a Second Lt. in the Army Air Corps. Colonel Hamilton’s military career spanned several years, a number of those years he flew as a pilot in Tactical Aircraft Command (TAC) where he flew the C46, C47 and C119. Colonel Hamilton’s last assignment in the military was base commander at Youngstown Air Reserve Station in Vienna, Ohio. In 1974 he went into the Inactive Reserves and officially retired from the USAF on July 11, 1985.
Frank will be greatly missed by the love of his life, his wife of 63 years, Judy Hamilton. His children Sandra (Jon) Burnside, Frank (Linda) Hamilton and daughter in law, Donna (Bob) Hamilton along with their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren, and his sister, Norma Nadalin.
In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his son Bob Hamilton, his grandson Frank R. Hamilton III, and siblings.
Visitation will be held from 1-3 PM on Sunday, November 19, 2023 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST, 1740 Zollinger Road, Upper Arlington, Ohio 43221, where a funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday November, 20, 2023. A graveside service will follow at 12 PM at Union Cemetery 3349 Olentangy River Rd, Columbus, OH 43202.
