Evonne F. Rogers

Evonne F. (Callaghan) Rogers, 83, of Hilliard, passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2013, after bravely weathering the debilitating effects of multiple strokes. Our sweet, wonderful, inspiring mother and Geemaw was born May 28, 1930, and grew up on the Hilltop, graduating from West High School.

A talented homemaker and cooker of delicious comfort food, she was the foundation of our safe and loving home. She said she would have been a nurse had she not chosen to be a homemaker, which was right in line with her mild-mannered, caregiving personality. She also had a knack for drawing and acrylic painting. In her later years, she spent a lot of time traveling and saw a good deal of North America. A member of Meadow Park Church of God since the mid-1980's, she held a strong belief that she would one day join her loved ones again in the hereafter. She was a unique and special person to those who knew her, and she will be missed terribly.

Preceded in death by loving husband, Richard H. Rogers III, and parents, William J. and Gladys M. Callaghan. Survived by devoted longtime companion, Robert Walling; son, David (Susan), son, James (Joyce), daughter, Linda Cahaelen, daughter, Mary (Wray) Switzer; son, Daniel (Lisa); eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In addition, she had many extended relatives and friends.

She was blessed. Though it's painful to imagine life without you, we're filled with such deep gratitude for having had you in our lives. You showed us how to face tremendous adversity with sheer grace. Your care, kindness, humor, values, and immeasurable strength will live on in our memories and inspire us for the rest of our lives. Thank you to the staff at Mill Run Care Center for ongoing care and support.

Friends will be received Thursday, December 5, 2013 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd., Columbus, from 5-8 p.m. Memorial service will be held Friday, December 6, 2013, also at Schoedinger, at 10 a.m. Burial at Sunset Cemetery.
