A funeral service for Evelyn E. Hanna, 83 of Newark, will be held on Friday, December 18, 2009 at 10:30 AM at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Home, with Pastor Josh Pennington officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Rest Memorial Estates.
Evelyn was born in Zanesville, Ohio on April 23, 1926, to the late Robert and Lulu May (Woods) Miller. She passed away at Licking Memorial Hospital on December 14, 2009.
Evelyn graduated from Lakewood High School in Cleveland. She was a cook with the Lakewood School system for 12 years. She then graduated from 3B Beauty School in Newark. Evelyn and her late husband, Paul, managed the concession stand business at National Trail Raceway for 18 years. She was also a teacher’s aide with the Newark City Schools system for 16 years. During her past 25 years, she baby-sat for the Mercer and Walters family.
Evelyn was known as “Grandma Great.” When her kids were growing up, she hosted dances for the neighborhood kids in the basement of their home and had pool parties throughout the summer. She was a great cook and was well known for her homemade chicken and noodles. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her late husband Paul in Florida. She also enjoyed watching karaoke, spending time with her children, going to watch her grandson’s baseball games, and cooking holiday dinners.
Survivors include two sons, Paul Hanna, Jr. of Newark and Tom (Sandy) Hanna of Pataskala; grandson, Shaun (Carmela) Hanna; six great grandchildren, Navy, Isabel, Nova, British, Vayda and Turk; one sister, Ruth Ann Miller Gamble; and many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Hanna, whom she married on October 8, 1946, and passed away in 1982; brothers, Earl, Richard, Harold, Kenny, Don and Jim Miller; sisters, Catherine, Margaret, Thelma, Ruth, Mildred, Betty and Dorothy.
The Hanna family would like to thank the Mercer and Walters family for allowing Evelyn to be a part of their lives for the past 25 years.
