Ellen T. Castle

Ellen Castle, born Ellen Remington Thomas on July 30, 1916 and raised on the Thomas family farm of three generations near Alexandria, Ohio, passed away November 24, 2011 in Columbus, Ohio. Ellen graduated from Alexandria High School (1934) and Denison University (1938). She married Walter Castle June 29, 1940, and then lived in New York State, Dayton, Worthington, and Upper Arlington, Ohio. Ellen taught at Flint Ridge School, Licking County, and elementary schools in the Worthington School District. She enjoyed travel, reading, writing, and being with family and friends. Ellen was baptized at Alexandria Baptist Church at age 13 and is a member of Mountview Baptist Church, Upper Arlington, Ohio. Preceded in death by husband, Walter Castle; parents, Ernest and Lura Thomas; and brother, James Thomas. Ellen is survived by her son, James Walter (Eleanor) Castle, Clemson, SC; grandsons, Michael James Castle, Philadelphia, PA and Samuel Thomas Castle, Davidson, NC; granddaughter, Hannah Elizabeth Castle, Columbia, SC; sister, Emily Thomas Smith, Zanesville, OH; nieces and nephew, Joy Ellen Munson, Newark, OH, Barbara Lura (Thomas) Mercer, Wake Forest, NC, Suzann Remington (Leonard) Buckle, Boston, MA, Thomas Herrold (Colleen) Donlin-Smith, Penfield, NY, Barbara Jean (Roger) Kohin, Worcester, MA, Margaret Ann (Rudolph) Winter, St. Louis, MO, and Mary Elizabeth Altman, Buffalo Grove, IL; and extended family, Betty Ann Donnelly, Longmont, CO. Family will receive friends at the SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL 1740 Zollinger Road Thursday, December 1 from 6-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, December 2 at Mountview Baptist Church 2140 Fishinger Road, Columbus with interment to follow at 12 p.m. at Alexandria Maple Grove Cemetery, Alexandria, Ohio.
