Elizabeth (Betsy) Von Blond passed away on April 9, 2024 at home in Columbus, Ohio. She is survived by her devoted, caring daughter Elizabeth Lee Von Blond, her two grandsons Hayden Alexander Talbert and Lucian Fisher McClain, her former husband Philip Dunn Von Blond and his wife Ann Farrell Hughes, her two sisters Mary Lamb Bond Lucas and Antoinette Bond Morrison, and her faithful dog Tazzie McGhee. She was preceded in death by her son Philip Dunn Von Blond, Jr. and her parents Marshall Bond, Jr. and Mary Lee Morris Bond.
Betsy graduated from Greenbriar College for Women and attended Marshall University. She was known for living life fully with an adventurous spirit. She became a pilot and enjoyed flying. She loved sports cars, bungee jumping, and hang-gliding. She traveled around the world with friends and family, most recently to Iceland. Betsy was the Executive Director of The Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation in Charleston for many years. A boundary that Betsy broke was becoming the first woman elected to be the president of the Charleston Rotary Club. Betsy was a creative cake and candy maker and made several wedding cakes for friends.
Betsy lived along the North Carolina coast for many years attaining a dream of hers. She was blessed with lifelong friends affectionately known as “The Beach Girls” with whom she enjoyed many trips.
A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later time. Donations may be given to your local no-kill dog shelter or hospice.
