Elizabeth Virginia Doherty, affectionately known as Bette, age 99, died December 26, 2016. She was born in Syracuse, New York to Anne and Stephen Madigan on February 14, 1917. Bette is predeceased by her parents, her loving husband of 60 years, James J. Doherty, younger sister; Ruth Samoroy, and her granddaughter Elizabeth. Bette is survived by their children; James E. (Sandra) of Florida, John J. (Merilyndle) of Pennsylvania, Stephen M. (Mary) of California and R. Jerry (Debra) of Dublin, Ohio. Grandchildren; James, Amanda, John Mitchell, Sean-Michael, Christopher, Nora, Brian, Rita, John Riley, and Jake and eight great-grandchildren. James and Bette met at the Rock Lake Picnic at St. Julian’s Parish, and were married on May 18, 1940. James was a vice president for Nationwide Insurance which allowed for countless events, parties, and vacations around the World. Bette volunteered for Riverside Hospital, played in several bridge groups, was a Cub Scout Den Mother, bowled and golfed at Worthington Hills Country Club, did yoga and belly danced. She was a wonderful cook and made a prize-winning lemon meringue pie. Bette was a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church for more than fifty years and volunteered in the school library. Services are entrusted to SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, 1899 McCoy Rd.
