Ed was born in Philadelphia, PA on March 20, 1934. In 1951 Ed entered the United States Air force and proudly served his country during the Korean War. After returning in 1955, he settled in the Columbus area. Ed pursued the love of his life, and finally talked Miss Darlene Hendershott into marrying him on September 23, 1960. He gave new meaning to the term “Police Pursuit”. They celebrated over 43 years together before her passing in 2004. In 1959 he joined the Columbus Police Department and served the City of Columbus for 27 years and retired in 1987 with the rank of Sergeant. During his service, he graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA and taught law enforcement at CTI. Throughout his career and life, Ed touched many lives, and made a positive influence on them. He will be remembered as a dedicated officer, but more importantly, a loving husband, father, papa and protector.
Ed’s survivors include his children; Lori (Brad) Henning, Greg (Jenna) McDevitt, and Karen (Eric) Snyder; grandfather of; Kali, Dylan “His Lil Buddy”, Tegan, Evan, Alex, and Olivia. He is also survived by his faithful companion Sky.
The family will be receiving friends at the Schoedinger North Chapel, 5554 Karl Rd., Columbus, OH on Tuesday May 10, 2011 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm., Internment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Mount Carmel Hospice in his honor.
