Earl F. Hawkins of Upper Arlington, Ohio, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2022 at Kobacker House. A memorial service will be conducted in The Chelsea at First Community Village, 1800 Riverside Drive, Upper Arlington on Thursday, December 29, at 1:30 p.m. Visitors will be received by the family one hour before the service. A graveside service will be conducted on Thursday, December 29, at 10:00 a.m. at Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville, Ohio.
Earl was born on March 5, 1933, in Leipsic, Ohio to John D. and Wilmetta I. Hawkins. He attended Leipsic Public Schools through the eighth grade and graduated from Cambridge, Ohio High School in 1951. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Degree from Case Institute of Technology in Cleveland, Ohio in 1955.
He worked in several engineering positions with Ohio Edison Company. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain. Earl began work with American Electric Power Company in 1960 at Wheeling, West Virginia and progressed through several management positions in Ashland, Kentucky, Canton, Ohio, and Newark, Ohio, retiring in 1993. He was a registered Professional Engineer in Ohio and West Virginia.
Earl was preceded in death by his wife, Joan, after 59 years of married bliss, and his parents. He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis and Paul Devlin of Phoenix, New York and Colleen and Jeff Heacock of New Concord, Ohio. Also surviving are grandchildren Shaun Devlin, Megan Heacock, Casey Devlin, and Justin Heacock, as well as one sister Dolores (Dee) H. Hileman of Cincinnati, Ohio, sister-in-law Linda (Paul) Puffenberger of Ft. Myers, Florida, and several nieces and nephews.
In his lifetime, Earl was active in and held leadership positions in many religious, business, civic, and community organizations. His love of his country and his support of the free enterprise system was demonstrated by more than 30 years of service in Junior Achievement organizations in four communities. He was a member of Rotary International, several Masonic bodies, Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity, and Theta Tau Fraternity.
