Dorothy M Rhodes

Dorothy Mariah Rhodes, 94, of Columbus, OH passed away July 15, 2021. Dorothy was born May 16, 1927 in New Salem, PA to the late Ray and Mary (Allamon) Campbell. She married Ernest R. Rhodes on January 2, 1948 and was married 67 years before his death in 2015. A beloved pastor’s wife for 45 years, Dorothy also invested in the lives of many children through serving the church alongside her husband as a director of day care facilities at both Bedford Church of the Nazarene in Bedford, OH and Kiddie Prep Christian School in Columbus, OH.

She loved spending time with family, listening to her favorite hymns, and spent countless hours on the phone with family and friends she had accumulated over the years. Her love for her family and others is evident in the many lives she impacted in her 94 years.

She leaves behind her daughters, Judith Rae Whetsel of Columbus, Debra Lynn (Paul) Gawry of Macedonia, 10 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren. She is also survived by brothers Allances (Pat) Campbell of Lutz, FL and Thomas (JoAnn) Campbell of Cary, NC and her canine companion, Heidi.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sons, Eugene Allen (Deb) Rhodes and Ernest Ray (Joanne) Rhodes, and sisters Evangeline (David) Bradley and Carolyn Campbell.

Family and friends may call Friday, July 23rd at Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, 6699 North High Street, Worthington, OH 43085 from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm. A service will be held immediately following the viewing with Pastor Bernie Dickson officiating. Interment will follow at Kingwood Memorial Park.
