Doris was born January 4, 1932 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late William and Elizabeth (Voldez) Howard. In addition to her parents, Doris is also preceded in death by her loving husband, Bobbie A. Dickerson; her son, Donald D. Dickerson-Shakir; and her brother, William Howard, Jr.
Doris was a loving wife, mom, and grandmother who was passionate about life and touched the lives of so many people. She had an unconditional love of animals, especially her cats. She also had an artistic side, creating beautiful art work and crocheting blankets. You knew you were special when she made you one of her “Doris originals.”
Additionally, she was a true master of Jigsaw puzzles and word searches. Often completing these while drinking her favorite Pepsi and eating pretzels. Doris was a homemaker who loved taking care of her family. She was the best babysitter, always spoiling her grandchildren or any child she came into contact. She loved children. Nana enjoyed traveling as often as she could and always had a good story to tell you. Her heart was as big as the ocean and her love was unconditional.
Doris is survived by her daughter-in-law, Arqulia J. Bowers; her grandchildren, NaShid Dickerson, Justin Dickerson-Shakir, and Justina Dickerson-Shakir, Uncle Sonny, Aunt Theresa, nephew Steven Dickerson and many other relatives and friends.
Family will accept friends from 4:00pm to 6:00pm on Thursday, December 29, 2022 where Memorial Service will follow with Pastor Keith Jones officiating.
Doris will be laid to rest next to her husband and son at Northlawn Cemetery.
