Don Eugene Riddle, 79, of Columbus, passed away on November 29, 2019. He was born on October 8, 1940 in Tiffin, Ohio to the late Gerald and Dorothy (Albright) Riddle. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Joe (Marjorie) Walker, Jim (Rosa) Walker, Bill Walker, Jerry McGraw, Tom Ogg, and James McConnell; and sister-in-law, Joyce Walker Engelbert.
Don attended Bowling Green University and graduated from the Ohio State University where he received his bachelor's degree in History and Science. He later attended Xavier University where he received his master's degree in Criminology. Don was a proud veteran of the United States Army and after being Honorably Discharged became a teacher and taught incarcerated youth at Riverview School for nearly 33 years.
Don was a friend to so many people. He loved to make people laugh, he had a great sense of humor. In his free time Don loved doing many things. He was a very talented artist who did woodworking, painting, stained glass, pencil drawings, and watercolors. Many friends and family are blessed with pieces of his artwork. Among other things, he loved to read. He would often read up to five books a month. He also enjoyed a wide variety in music. He would listen to everything from Aretha Franklin to ZZ Top and almost anything in between. Don was a lifelong Ohio State Buckeye fan and greatly enjoyed being with his family and friends
Don will be greatly missed by his wife of nearly 55 years, Ruth Riddle; children, Jayne (Chad) Dornquast and Geoffrey (Sue) Riddle; grandchildren, Steven and Scott Dornquast and Adam and Alex Dragt; brothers-in-law, John (Esther) Walker, Don (Kathryn) Walker, Phillip (Faye) Walker, and Arnie Engelbert; sisters-in-law, Alice (Harold) Moran, Mary Walker Ogg McConnell, Rita (Walker) McGraw, and Ginny Walker; brother, Jon (Karen) Riddle; and numerous nieces, nephew and great nieces and great nephews.
A Memorial Service celebrating Don's life will be held at 1:30 pm Saturday, December 14, 2019 at Linworth United Methodist Church, 7070 Bent Tree Blvd, Columbus OH, 43235. His family will receive friends from 1:00pm until the time of his service. Refreshments to follow in the fellowship hall at the church.
