Dixie Lee Lauer passed away November 4, 2021 at the age of 79 in Lewis Center, Ohio. She was born October 1, 1942 in Chillicothe Ohio, the second child of Frank Brock Trainer and Julia Day Alva (Godwin) Trainer Beckman. She married Robert (Bob) Freeman Lauer, Jr. on February 24, 1964. They were married for 41 years and raised four children in Dublin and Worthington Ohio.
Dixie is predeceased by her husband as well as her parents. She is survived by her children, Anita Sue Lauer, Robert Fredrick Lauer (Sheryl), Julia Marie Vore (Eric), and Daniel Emlyn Lauer (Hannah); her grandchildren, Sydney Jordan-Miller Vore, Alexander Maxwell Vore, Ivan Andrew Vore, Nathan Charles Lauer, and Jeanne Emlyn Lauer; and her brother, Frank Emlyn Trainer (Bonnie).
Dixie attended Miami University of Ohio where she met her husband on the bus home one weekend. After going back to school while raising four kids, she graduated from The Ohio State University in December 1980 at 38 with a BS in Home Economics/Dietetics with membership in the Phi Upsilon Omicron honor society. She retired from the City of Columbus Department of Building and Development Services where she was a code enforcement officer focusing on environmental health. She enjoyed dogs, traveling, photography, and being a lifelong learner. She was an active member of Saint John's United Church of Christ in downtown Columbus where she volunteered weekly at The Largest Table, a free lunch for the community, for which she usually baked a cake.
Family will receive friends on Monday evening, November 15, 2021 between 5pm and 7pm at Schoedinger Funeral Home, 6699 N. High St., Worthington, Ohio 43085. Private services will be held on a later date at Greenlawn Cemetery
