Derek J. Jahn, age 21, was welcomed Home into the hands of the Lord on Monday, January 19, 2015, under the loving care of Kobacker House after a courageous battle with Sarcoma. Derek was born February 23, 1993 in Bloomington, Illinois and was a 2011 graduate of Westerville Central High School. He had completed his junior year at Ohio State University before being stricken with cancer, working towards a degree in Chemistry.
He was a passionate online gamer, who delighted in challenging his friends competitively at all hours. He loved hanging out with close friends, and his dry sense of humor and dedication to friends endeared him to many. Friends respected him for his independence and reluctance to follow the crowd.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ross and Judy Jahn, and his maternal grandfather Dale Whetstone. He is survived by his parents Jeff and Kelly (Whetstone) Jahn; his sister Kaitlin; maternal grandmother Nancy Whetstone; Uncle Michael (Cathy) Whetstone; cousin Aimee Whetstone; and Uncle Chris (Melinda Kurth) Jahn. He is also survived by beloved pets Riley, Tucker, and Felix.
Family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m., Sunday at Schoedinger Worthington, Ohio 43085. His Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 26, 2015 at Heritage Christian Church, 7413 Maxtown Road, Westerville, OH 43082. Private family interment.
