Dean was raised on a farm near Washington Court House, Ohio where he learned hard work and developed his tremendous love of family.
Dean was a 1975 Graduate of Miami Trace High School finishing in the top 10 of his class. He received an associates degree from the Ohio Institute of Technology, completing his undergraduate studies at Franklin University receiving a BS. He finished his education attending the University of Dayton where he received his MBA.
Dean's Technical career spanned over 30 years. Dean started his career at Cincinnati Milicron but spent the majority of his career at IBM and JP Morgan Chase. He retired from a successful career at Chase in June 2020.
Dean & Kelly started dating in 1998, where their first date was a Neil Diamond Concert. Dean, Kelly, & Michael grew into a family soon thereafter. Dean & Kelly got married on a beach in Hawaii in 2014.
Dean was an avid sports fan with his favorite teams being the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cincinnati Bengals, Cincinnati Reds, Hilliard Davidson Football, and the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Dean was part of the Hilliard Davidson Football Touchdown club where he helped prepare pre-game meals for Michael’s team. The team won the State Championship in 2009 & for years after he took great pride in telling everyone a play-by-play analysis of the game. Even after Michael graduated, he still enjoyed going to Friday night games over 10 years later.
Dean was Michael’s #1 fan & made it his personal mission to ensure that Michael bulked up for his Senior football season. Dean established a strict dietary routine for Michael that included PBJ sandwiches, extra servings for each meal, & often post-meal protein shakes as well.
Dean was an inaugural season ticket holder for the Columbus Blue Jackets and continued to be a season ticket holder for over 15 years.
As an inaugural season ticket holder, Dean’s name is preserved on a plaque at Nationwide Arena.
Dean was a meat lover. For Dean every trip to the grocery store included a deep investigation of the meat department & Dean took great joy in grilling and smoking meats almost every day. Some family members thought Dean’s smoked brisket was even better than City BBQ (Dean’s favorite BBQ spot)
Dean lived an active life with particular interests in softball, scuba diving, boating, and snow skiing. Dean was part of the Columbus Ski Club for many years & some of his favorite family vacations with Kelly & Michael were to ski resorts from Colorado to New York.
Dean first became a cat Dad when he met Bonnie and found great joy in caring for her in her final years. Later Dean met the feline love of his life in Miss C, who would howl at the front door every day waiting for Dean to get home. Many nights were spent with Dean in his recliner & Miss C curled up high on Dean’s chest purring relentlessly.
As a retiree, Dean & Kelly traveled extensively taking trips to Cape Cod, Hawaii, Costa Rica, the Baltics, Africa, & more.
Dean volunteered extensively at the MidOhio Food Bank & the American Red Cross.
Dean will be greatly missed by his wife Kelly, his son Michael, his siblings Creg (Cheryl), Brenda (Pete), Ben (Molly), and Amy (John). His nieces & nephews Brian (Monica), David (Sarah J), Brandon (Colleen), Sarah (Clayton), and Anna.
Dean was preceded in death by his father Marion, his mother Shirley, and his nephew Derek.
Visitation will be held at 4-7 PM on Thursday, December 8, 2022 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST, 1740 Zollinger Road, Upper Arlington, Ohio 43221. A service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, December 9, 2022 at the same location.
