C. DeVere Johnson, age 87 of Upper Arlington, Ohio passed away on Monday, February 5, 2024. De was a graduate of Bexley High School Class of 1955 and attended The Ohio State University, where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. He retired from Ohio Bell Telephone/Ameritech after 39 years of service and resigned from Lee County Communications, Ft. Myers, Florida to return to manage his businesses: Owner/President of Sherwood B&R Inc, J&M Properties and DN Johnson Family Athens LLC of Nelsonville and Columbus, Ohio, DN Family Franklin Co. LLC.
He is a Life Member of Ohio Rifle and Pistol Association, National Rifle Association, Ohio State University Alumni Association and Navy League, Member of Scioto Country Club, Alumni Association of Sigma Phi Epsilon (Board of Directors at Ohio State), Former member of Ohio Quarter Horse. He was very active in the Tri-State Association, Michigan/Ohio Quarter Horse Racing Association, Great Lakes Cruising Club, Dublin Gun Club (President, VP, Treasurer and Secretary), Telephone Pioneers of America, Founder of The Bell Gun Club Inc. (officer), Athens County Agriculture Association, Organizer/President of Columbus (Capitol) Amateur Hockey Association and Referee School, Executive Club of Columbus, Columbus Council of World Affairs, Royal Palm Yacht Club, Ft. Myers, Florida, and Elder in Indianola Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. He loved cruising the Great Lakes both American and Canadian waters. He is retired from The Navy Air Reserves (23 years of service).
De is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Nancy Cottingham Miles Johnson; brother David (Betty) Johnson of Panama City Beach, Florida; children Jodi (Craig) Johnson Flaherty of Plain City, Ohio, James (Lorraine) Miles of Upper Arlington, Ohio, Jayne (Mark) Miles Schiefer of Venice, Florida; German son Axel Baudach of Vienna, Austria; grandchildren Shannon (Justin) Crites of Blacklick, Courtney and Kaitlyn Flaherty of Plain City, Connor and Corey Miles of Upper Arlington, Kathryn (Siegfeid) Lauren of Lexington, Ky. and Elizabeth (Kevin) O’Hanlon of Springfield, Virginia, Brie (Eric) Stammler of Albany, Ohio and Andrew (Kaitlan) Cheesewright of Dayton, Ohio; 13 great-grandchildren Addison, Hayden and Preston Lauren, Madeline, Audry, Conor Michael O’Hanlon, Brooklyn, Madison and Jackson Crites, Wyatt Stammler, Gordie Cheesewright and Elijah and Haven Imes.
