David Albert Seifert, 82, Columbus, passed peacefully surrounded by love on September 26, 2022. He was born August 26, 1940, in Cincinnati, son of the late Albert and Flora (Duwelius) Seifert. He graduated from Hughes High School in 1958 and from the University of Cincinnati in 1963 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi engineering honorary fraternity.
He worked for General Electric in Cincinnati for 6 years before moving to Columbus to work for Battelle Memorial Institute as a Research Scientist and later a Project Manager for 34 years. There he excelled at and enjoyed most working in the lab.
A big focus during his long life, however, was to be a husband, father, brother, uncle, friend, and teacher to all that he could be. He was an avid problem solver and inventor. He was known to his wife and kids as the “man that could fix anything” and also taught his kids to fix or build things themselves. He was a long-time faithful member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Upper Arlington where he served as an Elder and facilities manager and could often be found as the handyman, helping out and serving God. He donated hundreds of hours of his time and talent building and rehabbing homes for Mid-Ohio Habitat for Humanity. He also participated in many Presbytery of Scioto Valley mission trips after disasters occurred. He had a big heart and a giving nature.
He was an avid woodworker often making furniture and other pieces for his family, friends, and the church. He was a long-time member and past Commodore of Leatherlips Yacht Club in Columbus where he was recently awarded a lifetime membership. He loved vacationing with his family and friends and taking his family fishing, sailing, camping and hiking. Dave and Sheila traveled widely throughout the USA. Their favorite trips were to the Arctic Circle above Alaska and to Cuba with the Columbus Council on World Affairs.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sheila Conard Seifert of 59 years; children Andrew David Seifert Sr. of Lancaster and Robin Seifert LaPrete (Jeff) of Mason; grandchildren Andrew David Seifert Jr. (Caitlin Whitehurst), Evan G. Seifert, Rebecca S. Seifert (Dustin Snoke), Morgan J.LaPrete (Ben Graham), Conard J. LaPrete, and Surgenor David LaPrete; great-grandson Leland Snoke; nephew William David McMillen (Teresa), niece Sharon L. McMillen; brother-in-law William McMillen; 3 great nieces and 3 great-great nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Audrey Seifert McMillen.
Family will receive friends Saturday, October 8, 2022, beginning at 9:30 am until time of service at 11:00 at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 2070 Ridgecliff Rd., Upper Arlington 43221.
