David Michael Mattox, age 62, passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at Mount Carmel Medical Center. He was born in Columbus on November 29, 1948, and was a graduate of Franklin Heights High School. David proudly served our country in the US Marine Corps. He was a bus operator for COTA where he loved to tell stories about each stop along his route. David was a lifetime member of the VFW, AMVETS, American Legion, and Moose Lodge. He was a people person, and he made friends everywhere he went. He also enjoyed hunting and boating. He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Shields; and siblings, Juanita Ray and Robert and Richard Mattox. He is survived by his children, David “Michael” (Heather) Mattox II, Diza (Steve) Grines, and Kelly (Mike) Perry; 6 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, March 13, 2011, at the SCHOEDINGER HILLTOP CHAPEL, 3030 W. Broad St. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Roscoe Swain officiating. Interment will follow at Green Lawn Cemetery.
