I moved back to Columbus a little over a year ago after living in Wyoming for 30 years.  Dave and Tina came out to visit the summer before he passed.  We grew up across the street from each other, and then when moving, 2 blocks away.  Since returning, I've never met more people who considered him their 'best friend'.  I am one of those people.  Dave was one of the kindest, empathetic, decent person I ever knew.  We spoke once a week, at least, and he was my hero.  I know it's been some time since he died, but I still miss him.  In fact, my heart actually hurts sometimes knowing I can't talk him.  Tina, his wife, is one of the other nicest people I know.  And Sean is a great kid, still trying to make sense of it all.  His mom and dad were my aunt and uncle, and his brother Dick was my only other cousin. We all carry a burden that we should have 'done something'.

There will never be another Dave.  Everyone loved him and his death affected us all in different ways.  I choose to see him, his Dad as well as my father sitting on a beach, toes in the sand, listening to Jimmy Buffet and drinking Corona.

My prayers are just that he feels no more pain, and that someday I will see him again. Dave, you know I love and miss you.  As do so many.  We'll see you again.

Just heard about Dave, we are so sad to lose him. I remember Dave driving me around Victorian Village in his gold 5 speed Jetta(?) at 7 miles per hour pointing out the box gutters and fore stair furnaces on buildings and showing me income and expenses on a  prospectus in the other hand while somehow steering and shifting gears as passing cars honked and gave us 
dirty looks as they were finally able to get around. " I think this one would be a good building for you."  He was multi talented and a great man. I still have many friends I met through Dave.

Dick & Nancy, I just found out that your brother passed away and I wanted to extend my deepest sympathy to you and your family. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this most difficult time.

The trips to the Bahamas were the best trips of my life and I met a lot of your friends there who are now my friends also. You had so many nicknames for everyone that it is hard to remember what their real names are:Sammy, Cowboy, Indiana, Topshelf, Papillon, Artist, American Gigilo and many more. Is there a better memory than being a kid in the old neighborhood on a summer day?  About 18 yrs. ago, I had the pleasure of running into David at a 'watering hole' just down the street from his office on 3rd Ave.  It was a great opportunity to catch up on family news and reminisce about good times past.  On behalf of the Offenbacher family, present and passed, we offer our condolence to the Dunkle family with a special nod to former neighbors on both sides of Inchcliff Road.

"SHABA!"  A greeting reserved for a small group of guys who just followed Dave to his dream in the Bahamas.  What a privilege to have been along for that ride. Your generosity, and advice are truly a model for us to live by.  The help and support you have given me and my family over the last 20 years were instrumental to achieving our dreams. Without you I would not be who I am today.  You have helped give all of us who were blessed to have been touched by your compassion, positive nature and wonderful smile, a beautiful example of how to live our lives.  I hope I have the opportunity to repay some of the gratitude that is certainly due to a wonderful mans family...

I do not possess the ability to express or show you how much Dave meant to me and my family, nor will I try.  Just know that you and Dave have a permanent place very deep in our hearts that can never be forgotten, not for one day.  Through Dave's generosity you will always have someone here for you to call on anytime for anything, day or night!

"Wavey Davey" I'll never forget our adventures in the Bahamas building your stilted bungalo, that coral crag of a crazy idea. But you made it work. Or when we 1st met after college, the early years of Victorian Village scramblin' to get established -moonlighting at Scioto Downs, our common friends and so many beers and stories gone by- the homes and children and wives and milestones shared. Without your help and support I my never have pursued so many years ago my sideline of Rental Property in our Hood which you were so right very about. Our lives have woven themselves together for so long that I can't quite imagine this world without your friendship, like a brother, your dry humor and careing concern for others will be missed more then you can imagine. My heart goes out to Tina and Sean. You my dear friend will be missed by many- but remembered by so many more.

I will never forget those growing up years with Dave and Dick and Evvie and Jane, those were magical times and I am so sorry that one of us is gone. I am glad that I had the opportunity to have a chance encounter with Dave and Christine at the Old Time Farm Festival in Centerburg a few years ago, so glad he recognized me and called out to me!
