September 23, 1936 - August 23, 2023
Dave went home to our Lord Jesus Christ, August 23rd, passing peacefully in his sleep with family by his side.
Born September 23, 1936 to Christine and Harry Dersch, he was predeceased by his parents, his sisters Mary Elizabeth Dersch and Elaine Dersch Scheuerman, his daughter Shawn, and Susie Dersch, his devoted wife of 55 years.
He is survived by his youngest sister, Judith Dersch Thompson (Allan) of San Jose CA; his children, Laura Jones (Gary) of Easley SC, Jeffrey Dersch (Cathy), Linda Potts (David) and Timothy Dersch (Dena Justus), all of Central Ohio, his grandchildren Evin Murphy (SC) and Megan Murphy (SC), and cousins, nieces and nephews.
Dave was a graduate of North High School and a life-long Columbus resident. He was employed as a route salesman with The Pennington Bread Company, Flowers and Klosterman Bakeries, after which he became a milkman and livery chauffeur. Upon retirement he gave his time to the American Red Cross as a volunteer driver and became a prolific organic gardener of heirloom tomatoes. He was a faithful husband, a loving father and a talented artist. He loved the outdoors, fishing year-round and spectator sports, especially his Browns, Buckeyes and Cardinals.
Dave lived a humble, quiet and private life. In honor of his wishes, a private interment and life celebration are pending.
Memorial donations may be made to The American Red Cross or Lifeline of Ohio in his name. He would encourage us to give blood and become organ, eye and tissue donors, and when our work is done, share a Coke, have a sit and watch the ballgame, or take a kid fishing.
