David Alan Agler

David Alan Agler, age 47, our beloved son, brother and uncle, passed away November 1, 2022. He was born in Columbus, Ohio on April 11, 1975, the son of Alfred and Carol Agler. David had a zest for life as reflected in his wide variety of interests and activities, and in his lifelong pursuit of knowledge about the world around him.

David graduated from Grandview Heights High School where he was on the varsity football team and participated in Track & Field events, weight lifting club and various choral groups. He had a wonderful singing voice and, as an adolescent, had performed the soloist role in “Pie Jesu” from John Rutter’s Requiem with the high school choir. After high school, he attended The Ohio University, graduating Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism. Later in his working life, his interests led him to continue his formal education with a Bachelor of Science in International Business from Franklin University and a Master of Business Administration from The University of Findlay.

Adventuresome and outgoing by nature, he had a passion for experiencing new cultures both locally and abroad and had many friends from around the world. During his life he travelled to Spain, France, Germany, Switzerland, England, Argentina, Uruguay, and Peru. Just prior to his passing he was making plans for a return to Argentina and the Patagonia region. Blessed with a natural facility for languages, he was a fluent Spanish speaker and also studied German, Chinese, Somali, Japanese and various Indian dialects.

Another passion throughout his life was physical activity and fitness. From Rugby at Ohio University to completion of the Columbus Marathon and various other running and triathlon events; to sky diving, swimming, ice skating, weight lifting, yoga, and karate, he loved them all. But of all of these, his greatest joy was karate. For over 20 years he taught karate at the Dublin Recreation Center and he relished his time mentoring young people and developing their karate and life skills. He particularly loved his “Little Ninjas” classes and the enthusiasm they brought to the program.

David was a kind- hearted soul who especially valued time with his family and never missed a family event or celebration. He took great joy in time spent with his nephews and niece, whether it was rough housing, gaming, legos or cheering them on at their soccer games. He relished his status as the special uncle who never failed to delight and amuse! In the recent weeks before his passing, he enjoyed a family scenic Fall foliage train ride in southern Ohio. He also led us on a twenty- mile bike ride on the Alum Creek Bike trail and a five-mile hike around the Westerville area amidst the late Fall brilliance. His absence leaves a painful hole in our collective family heart that will never be filled.

If David were with us today he would tell us to love and encourage each other, be open to new discoveries and experiences in life, be generous in your time and resources and help others to become the best version of themselves that they can be.

David is survived by his parents, Carol and Alfred Agler, of Grandview Heights, Ohio; his sister Mandy Agler (David Jay Martin) of Bexley, Ohio; his sister Jessica Monteiro, of Naples, Florida; nephews Rio and Ryder Monteiro and Jude Martin; and niece Penny Martin. He also leaves behind many beloved cousins, aunts and uncles.

The family will receive friends from 4:30-7:30 P.M Friday, November 11, 2022 at Schoedinger Northwest, 1740 Zollinger Rd., Upper Arlington, Ohio. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 12, 2022 at Boulevard Presbyterian Church, 1235 Northwest Blvd., Grandview Heights, Ohio.
