Daniel K. Buck (Dan) of Upper Arlington and Ft. Lauderdale, FL passed away on January 29, 2024 surrounded by love. Born July 3, 1931, Dan is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Charlene (Mickey) Buck; by sons David Buck (Elaine), Jeff Buck, and Scott Buck (LeeAnn); by stepson Stewart Johnson; by grandchildren Charlotte Garcia (Daren), Thompson Buck, Lauren Buck (Brett); Benjamin Buck (Katie), Evan Buck, Alexandra Buck (Ben) and Sam Buck; by six great grandchildren; by sister-in-law JoAnn Buck and nephews Steven and Kenneth Buck. He was predeceased by his parents Everett Buck and Elizabeth Buck, and by brother Roger Buck.
Dan graduated from Johnstown (OH) High School, and then from Denison University which he proudly supported as an alumnus. Dan was a member of and long-time supporter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. After college graduation, Dan attended the US Coast Guard Academy and served on the Great Lakes. Dan returned to Columbus several years later to help build a house — which began a career of building houses and then commercial buildings lasting five decades, including the development of a six building office complex in the center of Upper Arlington. A house built by Dan was featured in Life Magazine in 1967, and in 2022, one of Dan's grandsons and wife became proud owners of a house Dan built 59 years earlier. Dan was active in many organizations and clubs, including YBMC, Kiwanis, Rotary, Scioto Country Club, Catawba Island Club, Lauderdale Yacht Club, and Ocean Reef. He was a member of First Community Church.
Dan's long love of water began with building his own speedboat as a teen. For years, Dan enjoyed summer months cruising the Great Lakes with family and friends and his wife Mickey, and spending time at CIC where he served as Commodore. In winter months, Dan was an avid skier, skiing with Mickey on many trips to the Rockies. Boating and fishing shifted to Florida, first cruising and fishing throughout the Keys and Bahamas oh his beloved Bertram, then with the subsequent purchase of a condominium in Ft. Lauderdale, where they formed many lasting friendships.
A small family service and interment will take place at Green Hill Cemetery in Johnstown. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider a donation to Capital City Hospice or to the charity of your choice.
