CLEOPATRIA STEWARD, affectionately known as "Cleo" passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, February 27, 2017. She was 81 years young. Cleo was born on December 7, 1935 in Kimball, West Virginia to the proud parents of the late Edward Lee and Rosanna Terry. Cleo was the second oldest sibling of the 16 children born to this union. Cleo was united in holy matrimony to the late Melvin Steward Sr. on January 30, 1953 for 61 years until his death, April 4, 2015. From this union three beautiful children were created. She was educated in the Kimball, West Virginia school system and was a majorette in high school. Cleo was a faithful, longtime member of Hope Lutheran Church until her health began to decline. Cleo was well known for her scrumptious baking delicacies, sweet disposition and calm soothing spirit. But don't be mistaken by her quiet spirit. When challenged, or if something needed to be said, "Miss Cleo" would definitely put you in your place, if need be! Her love for her family was always first and foremost! Oh, how she loved her devoted children…first born son Dwight, dear Melvin Jr. (Mickey) and her twin, baby girl Kathy! When the grandchildren began to populate, you never saw a more boastful and proud grandmother than Cleo! As for the 15 brothers and sisters she was blessed to have, not a birthday would go by without one of them, or their spouses, or their children, receiving a thoughtful birthday card from her! Cleo was a dedicated and devoted wife that stood by her husband's side throughout his many accomplishments within the community and his businesses. Cleo was preceded in death by her father Edward Lee Terry Sr; mother Rosanna Terry; brother Edward Lee Terry, Jr and sister Rose Bloom Terry. Those who remain to cherish memories of Cleo include her loving children Dwight (Tonya), Melvin Jr. (Myrtle) and Kathy Steward; special granddaughter, Quenequa Sow; dear close friend Joyce Hayes; Six sisters; Juanita Marie Blackenberry, Florine Castleman, Katherine Harrell, Dorothy Holleman, Cynthia (Mark) Carpenter, all from Columbus, Ohio; and Verona Terry from Flint, Michigan. Seven brothers; William Terry, Nathaniel (Margo) Terry, Clarence (Brenda) Terry, Lonnie Terry, Richard (Lue) Terry, James (Valeria) Terry and Jeffrey Terry, all from Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
