A memorial service for Charles E. Hufford, 91 of Newark, will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at 7:00 PM at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Home, with Celebrant Andrew Hoover officiating. A private burial will be held in the family section of Dew Cemetery in Perry County at a later date.
Charles was born in Oakdale, Ohio on August 10, 1919 to the late Benjamin Franklin and Bertha C. (Masters) Hufford. He passed away at the Autumn Health Care on May 18, 2011.
Charles graduated from Hollister High School in Athens County. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Prior to retirement, he was a group leader with Owen-Corning for 24 years. He was member of the Corning Masonic Lodge #584. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, camping, reading and playing cards. He especially enjoyed traveling with his wife to Arizona during the winter months.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Betty Zane (Holland) Hufford, whom he married on December 23, 1939; children, Dottie Z. (Roy) Kearton, Gordon Lee Hufford and Kristi A. (Robin) DeLoach; grandchildren, Barbie, Janine, Doug, Jimmie, Chad, Joyce Ann, Brian, Roger, Brent, Jason, Josh and Casey; daughter-in-law, Barbara Hufford; 26 great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; close friend, Diana Hufford; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Charles to the Carol Strawn Center or Hospice of Central Ohio. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Family and friends may call at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, Newark on Tuesday, one hour prior to the funeral service, from 6:00-7:00 PM.
