Carolyn C. Hart, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 89. She was a loving wife to her husband of 47 years, John Hart, and together they raised five children.
Born to R. Taylor Hutton and Ruth Ellenberg Hutton, Carolyn grew up in Tennessee, where she developed a love for the simple joys of life—birds, butterflies, and, of course, a strong cup of coffee. At the age of 18, Carolyn left her home in Tennessee to pursue a job in Washington, D.C., with the Navy, marking the beginning of a life defined by independence and resilience. In her 50s, she returned to school, earning a bachelor’s degree in finance. Later in life, as she approached her 70s, she received a child development certificate and spent several years working with the preschool at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, a role that brought her immense joy and fulfillment. She was an active member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, where she was known for her skillful playing of the organ and for offering counsel to anyone who came to her seeking guidance. She was an invaluable part of her church community and touched the lives of many with her kindness, compassion, and wisdom. Carolyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 47 years, John W. Hart, as well as her parents, R. Taylor Hutton and Ruth Ellenberg Hutton, her brother and sister-in-law Billy and Helen Hutton, her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Roger and Janice Hart, and her son-in-law John W. Pennington. She is survived by five children: daughter, Patsy Bolender (Jon) and their children, Paula Davis (Mason) and great grandchildren Delana, Mila, Lucas, Olivia, Riley Natalie Bolender (Jack) and great grandson Jackson; son, Doug Hart (Jane) and children, Mandi Hart and grandson Gage Vorhees & Abbie Welch; daughter, Peggy Fannin (Troy) and their children, Sara Pennington-Busick (Lee), Rachael Fannin-Ryster (John) and great grandchildren Rose, Ezra Michele Walters (Steve) and grandchildren Alex, Madison (Cody) great -grandchildren, Elizabeth, Marley Curt Fannin (Annette) and grandchildren, David, Charlie, Kenna (Zach) great grandchildren, Porter, Kennedy, Katie (Danial) Great grandchild Nial, Rory Fannin (Amanda) and grandchildren Austin, Caleb; Son, Greg Hart and his children, Taylor Hart (Kierstin) great grandchildren Anderson, Anna; Lee Hart and Michael Hart; and son, Philip Hart. She also leaves behind many other beloved family members in Ohio and Tennessee, along with numerous cherished friends who loved her dearly. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 2, from 4:00- 7:00 p.m. at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 5200 Sullivant Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43228. On Thursday, April 3, there will be a visitation from 10:00- 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Officiating the services will be Rev. Lizzy Alatorres, Rev. Dan Kiger and Rev. Phillip Hart. Interment and committal service will follow in Alton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Carolyn’s memory.
