Carol Ann Mead, age 80, lost her brief, bold battle with cancer on Thursday, April 28, 2022. She leaves a huge hole in the hearts of her family and friends who enjoyed her sharp wit, contagious smile, delicious cooking, and engaging conversation.
Carol was born on December 14, 1941, in Gloucester, England to the late Alan and Muriel Oakley. Those who knew her would say she was born an adventurer with a voracity for all that life had to offer-immigrating from London to the United States in 1962 at 21 years of age.
Carol was a beautiful, passionate, cheerful and humorous individual who loved to sing in local shows and restaurants. She performed in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Charleston, and Columbus, and was asked to sing with former Ink Spot, George Smith-a true highlight.
After a long courtship, Carol married Dr. Ed Mead in 2008. The couple enjoyed cooking, dancing, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. She retired just a few months ago from the prestigious legal firm Dinsmore & Shohl as a legal secretary and receptionist.
Carol was a member of First community Church, Columbus Country Club, Columbus Athletic Club, and Catawba Island Club.
She will be greatly missed by her husband, Dr. Ed Mead; daughter, Tracy Lukacs; grandchildren, Amy, Sara and Douglas Fillmore; stepchildren, Lisa Shorney, Christopher Mead and Wendi McLaughlin; and many other loving family members and friends.
In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her son, Mark Lukacs.
Memorial Service will be held at 1 PM on Sunday, May 15, 2022 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST, 1740 Zollinger Road, Upper Arlington, Ohio 43221, where family will receive friends from after the service until 3 PM.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 42040, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
