On Monday, May 24, 2021, Carol Ann Luaces passed away at the age of 80 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Maria and Nancy; her grandchildren, Matthew (Latonya), Lauren (Jeremy), Jamie (Austyn), Isabella (Joel), Mercedes, and Isaiah; her great granddaughters Hazyl, Josephina and Wylee; and her many nieces, nephews, family and friends she met along the way.
Born in 1941 to Anthony and Mary (Mullin) Accetta in Brooklyn, New York, she cherished her role as big sister to Lorraine and Vincent, tending to them as children, enjoying time spent with them as adults, and caring for them in their final moments. During her childhood she also forged life-long bonds with her aunts and uncles, especially with her aunts Nancy and Gerry. As an adult, she married Joseph Luaces and embarked on a life-long journey that took her from Brooklyn, to California, to Missouri, and finally Columbus, Ohio as a widow. Everywhere she went, Carol made friends and forged bonds that stuck. She became an unforgettable force in the lives of everyone she met.
Carol was the kind of women who found joy in simply living life, spending time with those she loved, and finding beauty in the world around her. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother. With her generous heart and gentle honesty, she dedicated her life to taking care of the people she loved, and anyone else she thought she could help. To those she loved, she was an expert caretaker, confidant, counselor, and cheerleader. She never forgot a birthday or an achievement, and even if she had not seen you for years, she always remembered you like it was yesterday.
Carol was an avid storyteller, and most of the stories she told featured those she loved. Whether she told you of her misadventures as a young novitiate in the convent or her “Lucy and Ethel” adventures with her best friend Alice, you were guaranteed to laugh and maybe even cry. Being with friends and family reminiscing was definitely a favorite pastime of hers.
Carol also loved music, and even though she claimed to be tone deaf she loved to sing and knew the words to every classic imaginable. Whether belting out “A Mother’s Love is a Blessing” while baking cookies with the grands, or leading a family sing along at a wedding, singing with the people she loved brought her the greatest joy.
She loved to read, and she often saw herself as a secondary character backing up all the leads in the story of her life, but it was often her undying support and encouragement that allowed so many of them to shine.
