Carol Sue (Schlanser) Barnick, 92, of Grove City, Ohio, joined the choir of heavenly angels on Wednesday, December 22, 2021. She was born on October 20, 1929, to the late Julius Howard and Amelia Emma (Wagner) Schlanser of Cincinnati, Ohio. She came to Columbus, Ohio, to attend Capital University where she majored in music performance and composition, and was the first female to graduate in church music from the Evangelical Lutheran Seminary. Carol was a giver - always finding ways to serve others with great joy and love. She faithfully served side-by-side with husband Armin at churches in Indiana, Tennessee, and Ohio, and helped to start Bethel Lutheran Church in Grove City, Ohio, where they served for 25 years. Carol was an active member of her community. She created an award-winning outreach program for the Grove City Public Library, founded and conducted the Grove City Senior Chorus, and was a dedicated leader of Bible Study Fellowship. Carol was a member of Upper Arlington Lutheran Church and, recently, Zion Lutheran Church, Obetz. Carol was a faithful servant for the Lord, uplifting others with her cheerful spirit and caring heart. Her unwavering faith and compassionate love for the Lord were reflected in her everyday life. She was dearly loved by all, especially her many grandchildren. Carol was preceded in death by Armin L. Barnick, her loving husband of 66 years. She is survived by her children Mark (Lana) Barnick, Dana (Mark) Klabunde, Jane (Will) Hillenbrand, and Karen (Robert) Pfeifer; thirteen grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by brothers Jack (Hilma) and Dale (Emma) Schlanser. A private service was held at Zion Lutheran Church, Obetz, Pastor Matthew Cox officiating. A memorial service celebrating Carol's life is planned for a future date.
