Brian Pickrell, of Worthington, Ohio, was born on March 23, 1951 in Lancaster, Ohio. After a long and hard fought battle with a serious illness, Brian died peacefully on July 16, 2021, at the Ohio State University James Cancer Hospital, with his family by his side. Brian's father, Ernest Harold Pickrell, served in the Navy during the Great Depression, and returned to service to fight in the Pacific on destroyers during World War II. His mother, Francis Alice (Lane) Pickrell was the youngest in a large family that grew up on a family farm near Marietta, Ohio. Brian spent his early years in Marietta. As a young boy, he developed a love for the land when he lived and worked on his Grandpa Lane's farm. That love translated into a lifetime passion for gardening and horticulture that he passed on to his family and friends. Brian was also a lifelong student of politics and believed in hope!
Brian married the love of his life, Joanna (Tyminski) Pickrell, and was devoted to her throughout nearly 50 years of marriage. Shortly after they were married, Brian and Joanna were blessed with twin boys, learning that they would have twins barely 4 days before they were born. The family was complete when their beautiful daughter was born 12 years later. Brian and Joanna were also blessed with four grandchildren, who they loved and adored (and spoiled as grandparents should). They also had many wonderful pets over the years, including dogs: Whiskey, Otter, Autumn, and Sophie; and cats: Callie, Rex, Sparky, and Prim. Brian and Joanna lived for a short period of time in Marietta and Gorham, Maine, settled in the Clintonville neighborhood in Columbus, and moved to Worthington 15 years later. Brian retired after working over 40 years at the Ohio State University.
Brian is survived by his wife, Joanna; his children and their spouses: Kristian and his wife Rhonda (Lundamo), Benjamin and his wife Muireann (Ní Chiara), and Rebekah; his grandchildren: Eleanor, Oscar, Oisín, and Róise; and his nieces and nephews and their families: Vandy, Cerra, Carly, and Jordan. He loved them all dearly.
A celebration of life was held on July 24, 2021.
