Born January 17th, 1951 in Brooklyn, New York, few had the privilege of truly knowing Brett Jaffe. A man passionate about his career as an attorney, his masterful practice of law is best exemplified by his successful 2010 argument before the Ohio Supreme Court, which had a permanent effect on jurisdictional law.
Brett had a lifelong love of American history. Before graduating first in his class from Capital University Law School in 1978, he received his Masters in American history from NYU. Even after retiring from his 43-year law practice, he continued to enjoy being a judge for high schoolers' American History Day papers and furiously reading historical fiction. He was a whiz with words, making him almost impossible to beat in Bananagrams. He found comfort in canines and loved to keep the home filled with a chorus of barks, from Mr. Chan to Gus. He adored music, especially the kind that transports you. He was passionate about hockey, especially the Blue Jackets, and taught his family to love the game almost as much as him. He loved to laugh and taught others how to laugh at themselves (often by example). But most of all, he found joy in his family. He was first and foremost a devoted father, brother, and husband. He protected and provided for those he loved with unparalleled intensity and loyalty.
It is our great sorrow to inform that on December 13th, 2022, in Columbus, Ohio, a most beloved man was lost. He is survived by his sister Susanne, his two daughters, Gillian and Dorrian, and his devoted wife of 38 years, Vicci. To honor Brett's life, a memorial will be held at Schoedinger Northwest on Wednesday, December 21st at 4 pm, immediately followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to send a donation in Brett's name to a charity of your choosing.
