Bill Jarrell, age 73, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, in Hospice of Central Ohio at the Wexner Medical Center. He was loved and supported by his family throughout the brave efforts he made for 6 months to survive cancer. Bill was born March 26, 1948, in Fairborn, Ohio, to the late Luther and Phyllis Jarrell. Graduate of Tecumseh High School (1966) and The Ohio State University (Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Physical Education, he also received a Master of Arts degree in Mathematics (1975) from The Ohio State University. Bill is survived by his wife Carole, son Craig and daughter-in-law Elizabeth; sister Kathy Diviak and brother Greg Jarrell. In 1971, Bill began a long and rewarding career as mathematics teacher and coach at Bexley High School. Throughout his teaching career, Bill was known not just for teaching subject matter but for empowering his students to think mathematically. Although he retired from teaching in 2002, Bill was called back to Bexley in the role of long term substitute teacher and tutor. In addition, Bill loved helping others learn and grow their sports skills, especially his son Craig. He coached Craig's T-ball and Bexley Youth Sports teams, and also provided Craig the opportunity to become a skier at the age of 8. Throughout Bill's life, he pursued adventure, from camping as a boy to sky-diving in his 20's. At 60, Bill earned his private pilot's license with instrument rating, and most recently his FAA commercial drone pilot's license. Bill's family would like to thank the expert and compassionate medical care of his team at The James Cancer Hospital and the staff and caregivers in Hospice of Central Ohio at Wexner Medical Center. His family would also like to thank the many wonderful friends at North Bank Condominiums who formed a team, taking Bill to chemoradiation treatments every weekday for 6 weeks. At Bill's request, he will be cremated at Schoedinger Midtown Chapel in a private service and his remains will return home to his family, who promised to take him on all their future adventures.
