Betty Bartley Meeks, age 88, passed away in Columbus on Dec. 13. She was born in McCutchenville, Ohio, to Henry Clay Bartley and Emily Bartley (Cochenour). She was a 1948 graduate of The Ohio State University Commerce College. As a high school journalist at Canton Timken High School, she interviewed First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. She was selected by the Ohio General Federation of Women’s Clubs as Mrs. Ohio in honor of her leadership and tireless charitable work for others in the Columbus community and Ohio. She founded Contractors Reporting Service and counted many Fortune 500 companies as clients. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends. Richard D. Meeks, deceased, was her loving husband. She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Meeks Puckett and her husband Steven, brother Jerry Bartley, brothers-in-law Robert Meeks and Donald Meeks and wife Peggy, many nieces and nephews, and Steven’s mother Mabel Puckett and the Puckett family. All who knew her were touched by her kindness and genuine concern for each of them. The family thanks our wonderful friends at Sunrise in Bexley and the staffs of OSU East Hospital and Zusman House for their loving care. A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Betty’s memory may be made to the Ohioana Library Association, 274 E. First Ave., Cols., OH 43201.
