Anne Kathryn Grimm, age 95, died peacefully in her home on Sunday September 4th, 2022. She was born February 23, 1927 in Rochester, NY, to the late Charles and Hilda (Mehlenbacher) Gouse. Also preceding her in death are sisters Patricia, Mary and Jean, and brother, John. Anne attended Nazareth College, and was a wife, mother, volunteer, and medical office manager.
Mom swam at the YWCA as a young girl and was a lifeguard. Anne was a scout leader for her sons and daughters. She belonged to St. Vincent’s Orphanage; she and dad fostered our brother Jose, and helped bring his Cuban family to Columbus. Continuing her work with refugees, Anne helped resettle Cubans, and then Somalians. She located housing, provided furniture, food and appliances by soliciting donations, transported them to medical appointments, translated for the Cubans, and taught English as a Second Language at North High School. She even did their taxes.
Anne volunteered at Ohio Health Hospice, helping John Fain in the kitchen (she was a great cook). At St Ann’s Hospital, she worked in the wound clinic and rocked babies in the nursery. She said rocking babies was the best way to lower her blood pressure. She sang with dad in the Immaculate Conception Choir.
She water skied, jet skied, cross-country skied and rode horses. She loved to crochet and knit, especially her famous dish cloths!
At holiday time we always had a guest at our table; mom never wanted anyone to be alone. She was a devout woman of faith who even prayed while she swam laps at the gym. She prayed continually for others, said the rosary and novenas for those in need. We all benefited by her intercession. We will cherish her memory and miss her greatly.
She thoroughly enjoyed time with family, especially her 18 grandchildren and 28+ great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Jim, they enjoyed 72 years of marriage together. She will be deeply missed by daughters Mary Anne (Michael) Meagher, Patricia (James) Kurth; Sons, John (Jillanne) Grimm, Charles (Connie) Grimm, James (Amy) Grimm, and Jose (Debbie) Garcia; Brother Thomas (Jeanne) Gouse and many nieces nephews and dear friends. Family will receive friends from 4 – 6 PM Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at Schoedinger Northwest Chapel, 1740 Zollinger Rd. Upper Arlington, OH 43221. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, September 15, 2022 at Immaculate Conception Church, 414 E.N. Broadway 43214 with burial at Resurrection Cemetery immediately to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Church or Ohio Health Hospice.
