Andrew H. Sheffield III, age 62, of Grandview Heights, passed away Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at Kobacker House with family by his side. He was born on December 1, 1959 in Germany, son of Andrew H. and Betty (Duncan) Sheffield Jr. He was an outdoor construction inspector with the City of Columbus with over 21 years of service. Prior to that, Andrew was a professional dancer, having many seasons with BalletMet, 2 seasons with the National Ballet of Ireland, and summers at Grandview State Park in West Virginia. Drew attended the North Carolina School of the Arts in high school. He was the very first Fritz in the first Nutcracker in Columbus 50 years ago. He subsequently performed many roles in this ballet, most notably, the Russian Dance for many years. He excited many audiences with his athleticism and passion in these performances.
He is survived by his sister, Virginia Sheffield (Tracy Hahn), daughter Elizabeth Sheffield, niece Carol, nephews David (Brianna) and Daniel.
Andrew continued dancing throughout his life, in addition to cycling, swimming, and practicing yoga. His workout regimen was intense and awe-inspiring to his family, friends, and co-workers. Drew’s favorite activity was playing with his beloved Black Lab, Deuce. They were the best of companions; we are grateful that they had many years together. Deuce passed on to the Rainbow Bridge just a couple of months ago; we smile at the image of their reunification. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 4:00 pm Saturday, December 18, 2021 at SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON, 6699 North High Street, Worthington, OH 43085, where family and friends may call from 3:00-4:00 pm Saturday.
